ABOUT THE TEAM

The motivation behind starting the Flyers was my love and passion for football, my eldest son Travis was already playing for the Pegasus Colts U9's and I must admit his manager Trevor Gilbert set the seed growing inside me again, his passion and commitment was my inspiration, my youngest son Tristan was very keen on football and so it made sense for me to set up a team for his age group, so after meeting with the committee from Pegasus our team was born, we decided on the name Flyers due to the Winged Horse...Pegasus.

We started at U6 / U7's age group, the majority of the team came from the same class at school with 6 boys from Tristans class at school starting training, we all took to it like a ducks to water, I loved it then like I love it now, to see players improve is what its all about, we went though our first season playing friendly games and I still remember the first game we ever played against Hucknall Sports at their ground, and to say our boys were fantastic was an understatement, after only 6 Weeks together we entered a Mansfield based tournament and the boys played with skill and understanding, only losing out in the final by a goal to nil against a team who had been together for 9 months, this left the team, parents and myself with a great deal of satisfaction.

I knew that this group of boys had a very special and rare talent individually they were so willing to learn and were like sponges listening intently to everything I told them, collectively not only were they best friends but they had an unbelievable understanding on the pitch which made them look like they had been playing for years together, playing 15 games and winning 14 and losing 1 (don't remind me) was a great start, the summer between our first season and second season, we entered numerous tournaments winning several very presitigious cups and I must admit, it didn't surprise me that we did very very well in them,

And so it was to the League season, by this time our numbers had swelled adding one or two talented boys along the way so not only did we have a league team to be proud of but the Flyers now had a development squad, with this group of rookies playing regular friendlies after the league games... up up and away were the boys, for both teams, playing the sort of football you'd expect to see from teams 2 years older (other coach's words not mine) scoring 130 goals and conceding 12 in our first league season, the Flyers were playing quality opposition too, after being invited to play teams from Forest, Leicester, and Aston Villa at their respective academy's,

I knew that the team would be losing a large percentage of our boys in total we lost 5 out of the 9 squad boys these were:-

Ryan Howe's GK Notts County FC
Alex Howe's MF Notts County FC
Ryan Reaston CF Notts County FC
Tristan Comery CM Derby County FC
Jack Pyatt CF Derby County

And so the summer of 2008 we started building for the 08/09 season to be played in the YEL Saturday first division we had also decided that the boys in the development team were ready to be unleashed onto the Derby City League, and so Shaun Hayes took over the Flyers Whites and after a week or so of sole searching I decided to continue with the Flyers Blues, we ve added some very talented boys who are now starting to play football the way football should be played, this has caught the eye of many an experienced coach at all levels, the boys are playing with style and panache, not always getting their just rewards but are all progressing very well and I cant believe what I'm saying here but the pro teams are hovering over the next crop of Flyers boys so watch this space ! long may it continue.....who are we...PEGASUS !
