Pegasus blue (under 14) v Hucknall Sport (under 14) 22/1/11

After Pegasus’s recent good form they where excited about the prospect of playing an exceptionally big, physical quality side, but playing a team at the top of league 1, who are also the 2nd best team in the country ( only loosing in the final on penalties ), it was always going to be an up hill battle, and it proved to be just that.
As early as the 3rd minute the visitors had their first golden opportunity, but where denied by Jack Bales racing from his goal , blocking at the feet of the onrushing striker, this was the first of many brilliant saves by the home keeper. Pegasus then started to get into the game, and on 6 minutes had their first chance, Rice racing down the left, firing narrowly wide at the far post, this gave the home side great confidence and 3 minutes later, more good work down the left, this time between Cerutti and Winfield ended with Cerutti shooting wide of the target. Less than a minute later Rice shook off the defence again only this time for the keeper to save diving full stretch to his right. Bales then made great saves on 12 and 16 minutes, first at his near post then throwing a right hand out to block when once again he was the last line of defence. The first 19 minutes had suprisingly been very even, but then the visitors scored from a right wing corner, headed powerfully home, suddenly the flood gates opened. A minute later , after Bales had made another fantastic save the score was 0 – 2 and again it came from a left wing corner. The visitors where really making their height advantage count. On 26 minutes 0 – 3, a long punt up field was clinically finished by a forward, a minute later 4, this time a good move down the left and confident finish. On 31 minutes Bales came to the rescue again, but a minute later, this time a right wing corner resulted in a Hucknall goal.

Half time: Pegasus blue 0 – Beeston Centurion 5

Hucknall pressed from the start of the second half and dominated, with Pego not even getting near the visitors goal. On 36 minutes Bales saved magnificently diving to his right, but on 40 minutes it was 0 – 6, with an easy finish. 4 minutes later it was 7, a poor goal kick, a scramble and the ball finally found it’s way into the goal. On 48 minutes Pegasus had there only shot of the half, but it lacked power and was easily saved. On 51 minutes 0 – 8 a good move down the right and drive into the far corner. On 56 minutes 0 – 9, a good flowing move down the right, the striker’s shot saved superbly by Bales, but left a simple tap in at the far post. On 59 minutes Bales saved well again, but could do nothing to stop the visitors scoring on 59 and 62 minutes to complete the scoring and to round of a miserable day for Pegasus blue.
