Lowdham Colts (under 14) v Pegasus Blue (under 14)
Sat 12th March 2011
On paper this was an easy away win, and the visitors turned up with that thought in mind , and struggled particularly in the first half.
It took only 5 minutes to open the scoring, a good cross from the right, neat work and pass by Mole to Lewis Lloyd Jones who slotted into the bottom corner. 2 minutes later Pego should have doubled their score, a long diagonal ball by Warburton to Cerutti, who lobbed the keeper, but also cleared the bar as well. On 9 minutes the score was level, a Price back pass to Bales, who mis-controlled, then cleared against the on rushing striker, and the ball nestled in the net. On 15 minutes Cerutti had the ball in the net, but the goal was mysteriously ruled out. Pegasus were finding chances hard to come by, but on 31 minutes did double their tally, a long right wing throw to Rice, who crossed for Cellan Brady to thump home at the far post to send Pegasus into an unexpected half time lead.
Half time: Lowdham Colt Red 1 - Pegasus blue 2
Pegasus started the second half with much more purpose, and in the first minute extended their lead, a left wing cross, not cleared properly by the home defence, fell perfectly for Tom Hopcroft arriving through a crowd of players to fire a rising drive into the corner from 14 yards. Rice then had 2 great chances on 38 and 40 minutes first blazing over then shooting against the post. A minute later the score was 1 - 4, a Tom Hopcroft shot fumbled by the home keeper, bundled home by Jack Winfield. On 45 minutes Colts pulled one back to make the score 2 – 4, a long ball over the top and good lob finished by the home forward. It took only 2 minute for Pegasus to restore their 3 goal lead, a solo effort by Jack Winfield, picking up the ball, firing against the foot of the post, then slotting home the follow up himself, 2 – 5. On 56 minutes 2 – 6 another pin point pass by Warburton to Winfield to race clear and fire into the far corner, to complete his hat-trick. On 60 minutes Winfield scored again, jumping high in front of the keeper to head home from a Gillard cross. On 69 minutes it was 8, and finally a well deserved goal for Adam Rice racing down the left before comfortably finishing. In the very last minute Danny Gillard completed the scoring after a mix up in the defence, resulting in a simple tap in to make the score 2 – 9.
