Pegasus Blue v Long Eaton United

A well below par performance saw Pegasus SLUMP ! to their first defeat of the season. It all started going wrong as early as the 8th minute - a United striker raced clear to slot home, a minute later they could have doubled their lead, but for a last ditch challenge. Pegasus didn’t have their first shot at goal until the 20th minute but Aaron Price blazed over. On 25 minutes Long Eaton doubled their score, a poor goal kick was knocked back towards goal and fired home. Pegasus then had two opportunities to pull one back, on 29 minutes James Cerutti fired wide then on 30 minutes Billy Warburton danced through the visitors defence, only to shoot against the foot of the post. A minute before half time the visitors went 3 – 0 up, the ball bobbled around the box untill it was lashed into the roof of the net. Right on half time things got worse for Pegasus when Aaron Price limped out of the game after a heavy challenge.

Half time: Pegasus Blue 0 – Long Eaton United 3

Whatever manager Mark Dunn & coach Jasper Gordon said at half time, it had an instant effect , with Pegasus pouring forward in the early stages. On 37 minutes a Danny Gillard shot from an acute angle was well saved, 3 minutes later Pego had a great opperunity after a deliberate back pass , but the chance was missed. On 43 minutes a long ball by Sean Gordon found George Mole, he hit a brilliant shot which looked to be heading for the top corner, only for the keeper to get finger tips to it, to push it onto the bar. A minute later all the pressure paid off , a free kick curled into the top left hand corner by Sean Gordon. 3 – 1. Pegasus then lost their momentum and on 47 and 63 minutes conceded sloppy goals to make the score 5 – 1, game over. There was a little late excitement, on 70 + 1 minutes a right wing cross was swept home by Tom Hopcroft to make the score 5 – 2 and a minute before the final whistle the visitors had their huge midfielder sent from the field following words with the referee. Overall, this was not just a bad result, but a very poor performance. Hopefully things can be put right in the cup next week.
