Pegasus Blue (under 14) v Gedling Southbank (under 14) 29/1/11
After a heavy defeat in the cup last week, it was important for Pegasus to get back to winning ways in this league fixture. It took them a while to get going in a very scrappy first half but a much better second. In the opening minutes neither side could get hold of the ball and keep possession, but on 9 minutes the home team fortuitously took the lead , a left wing corner by Jack Winfield may have been drifting in, but was blazed into the roof of his own net by a hapless visiting player. On 11 minutes a huge right wing throw by Hopcroft found its way to Cerutti at the far post who sliced wide, and a minute later a good move down the right, with a cross by Gillard finding Winfield , his shot struck the foot of the post. On 17 minutes the home side doubled their tally, a great solo effort by James Cerutti dancing around several defenders before firing home at the near post. It took 20 minutes for the visitors to have their first real effort on goal - it came from a free kick not cleared properly and driven narrowly wide. On 21 minutes Rice had his first of many efforts on goal , but shot straight at the keeper, the rest of the half lapsed back to a scrappy affair.

Pegasus came out for the second half with a much more positive attitude, and in the first minute extended their lead to 3 – 0, a great run down the right by Rice, beating several players for pace before crossing at the by-line to the far post for a simple tap in by Cellan Brady. On 39 minutes Rice raced clear again , only this time to thump the ball against the bar. Pegasus continued pressing forward and on 45 minutes had another good chance, quick feet by Cerutti before lobbing the ball to Brady who drilled the ball wide. On 50 and 54 minutes Rice had 2 more great chances, his first effort blocked on the line, then his second a cross by Cerutti headed against the woodwork. On 58 minutes all the hard work Adam Rice had put into the match finally paid off, albeit with a large element of luck, hitting a firm in-swinging left wing corner, straight into the goal at the back post to make the score 4 – 0. On 63 minutes Rice completed the scoring after being brought down on the edge of the box, he placed the ball himself and curled a beautiful free kick into the top left hand corner. A well ground out result.
