Pegasus Blue (Under 14) v Beeston Centurions (Under 14) 8/1/11

After the long enforced break due to extreme weather, it was important Pegasus continued the momentum they had gained before Christmas, and with a new addition to the squad, they did just that.
During the first 15 minutes it was the visitors that had the most possession, but the home team created the better chances, and their first came on only 2 minutes, great play by Rice and Warburton, ending with the latter slicing wide when in a good position. 2 minutes later a long throw to Gillard , who crossed for Brady, but his shot was easily saved. On 6 minutes Pegasus made the break through they wanted, a slide rule pass by Warburton found Adam Rice, he rolled the defender beautifully and thumped the ball past the helpless keeper. On 14 minutes Pego doubled their lead following a right wing corner, bundled in at the far post by George Mole in a crowd of players. On 21 minutes it was 3 – 0, a right wing cross by Rice to new recruit Jack Winfield, who fired into the top left hand corner from 10 yards. In less than a minute the visitors had pulled one back , straight from the kick off, racing down field lobbing the ball from a wide right position, in at the far post. Pegasus responded well and on 25 minutes extended their lead to 4 – 1, Rice raced clear, his shot was well saved, but finished off by Jack Winfield, chipping the ball over the sprawling keeper. On 27 minutes Centurions pulled another goal back, a good ball through and cool finish made the score 4 – 2. On 29 minutes the visitors could have had another, but for a magnificent save by Jack Bales diving bravely at the strikers feet. Pegasus needed to up their game and they did, Rice blazed over on 29 minutes then on 31 minutes a poor clearance by the visiting keeper was returned instantly into the unguarded goal by Billy Warburton. On the stroke of half time Pegasus extended their lead to 6 – 2, Brett Sable smashing the ball home from a right wing corner.

Half time: Pegasus Blue 6 – Beeston Centurions 2

Pegasus started the second half as they had finished the first, and on 38 minutes made it 7 – 2, a right wing corner by Brady, fired home by Jack Winfield to complete a debut hat trick. On 50 minutes 8 – 2, the visiting defence failed to clear a left wing corner, it finally fell to Jack Winfield who again lashed the ball home. 4 minutes later 9 – 2, Rice found space again, racing clear of the defence, he lobbed the ball over the advancing keeper , it cannoned off the bar but was tapped into the empty net by Jack Winfield following up. On 58 minutes Pego had the ball in the net again, great work by Dunn to Winfield to Rice who blasted home, but was ruled out for offside. On 60 minutes Rice danced around the visiting defence before blasting over. On 63 minutes it was 10 – 2 , another corner this time finished by George Mole for his second . With 4 minutes of the match remaining Jack Winfield grabbed his 6th and the teams 11th, collecting the ball on the edge of the box and thumping the ball into the corner to complete a satisfying result
